Roller Shutter Price: What Drives a Quotation

09:54

A roller shutter price is a quotation, not a catalogue figure. It moves with slat material, opening size, manual or motorized operation, guide and box configuration, finish, certificate scope and order quantity.

What a roller shutter quotation actually prices

A rolling shutter is a curtain of linked slats that coils into a box above the opening and runs in guide rails on both sides. A quotation therefore prices a small system, not a single material: the curtain, the rails, the roller tube and box, the operating method (hand crank, strap or motor), and any accessories the project calls for.

Check the product name before comparing any price

Shutter terminology is loose, and it causes the most expensive mistakes in sourcing. In our own catalogue, the category labelled “Roller Shutter” currently displays plantation shutters: PVC-blade, faux-wood, café-style, sliding and bay-window types. Those are louvred interior shutters. They are not rolling systems, and their price cannot be compared with a coiling curtain in a box.
Zip blinds are a third product. They use outdoor shading fabric in side guides, are available in manual or motorized versions, and are dimensioned to each opening. If a supplier’s quotation does not say which of the three it covers, ask before you compare anything.

Seven cost drivers behind the number

Cost driver What changes the quotation What to put in your RFQ
Slat material and profile Material choice and profile shape set the material cost; slat weight also affects tube and motor selection Material, profile name or drawing
Opening size Width and height set curtain area and roller-tube length; one oversized opening can change the tube or the reinforcement A schedule listing width and height for every opening
Operation A motor adds the motor itself, a control unit and a power connection; manual operation adds a crank or strap mechanism Manual or motorized per opening, control type, power supply
Guide rails and box Mounting position (inside or outside the reveal) and box size change the aluminum or PVC profile lengths Mounting position, reveal depth
Finish and color Standard colors cost differently from custom colors Color reference or sample
Certificates and tests Documents tied to a tested model take work to obtain and keep valid Target market, documents required
Quantity, packing, destination Order quantity, packing method, shipping terms and destination market all enter the final figure; custom profiles may add mold cost Quantity, packing style, shipping terms

Do two quotations really cover the same thing?

Four differences make two similar-looking quotations incomparable:

  • Motor included in one, not in the other. The cheaper sheet may simply omit the control unit.
  • Different slat profiles. Two quotations can both say “aluminum slat” while describing different profile shapes and weights.
  • Different price basis. One may be a supply-only price for components, another a complete kit, a third a price including installation.
  • Certificates that describe different things. ISO 9001 describes a company’s quality management system, not a product. CE conformity requirements apply where relevant to the product. A report is only useful if it names the tested model: ask for the document title, number, issuing or testing organization, tested product and model, standard version, issue and expiry dates, and the markets it covers.

How to request quotations you can compare

  1. Name the product type. Say rolling shutter, plantation shutter or zip blind, and attach a sketch or photo of the installation.
  2. Build an opening schedule. One row per opening: width, height, mounting position.
  3. State the operation per opening. Manual or motorized; if motorized, the control type and the power supply available.
  4. Specify the slat. Material, profile name or drawing, and color reference. Request a sample if the profile is new to you.
  5. State the markets and the documents. Ask each supplier to give report or certificate numbers and the tested model, not a general statement of compliance.
  6. State quantity, packing and shipping terms. Ask for the price basis on each line (components, kit, installed).
  7. Send the identical sheet to every supplier. The check: every quotation lists the same lines, so you can compare them line by line.

What we can quote today

Our confirmed shutter products are plantation shutters (PVC-blade, faux-wood, café-style, sliding and bay-window). For outdoor shading with side enclosure, we also supply zip blinds, manual or motorized, customized to the opening. Prices for both are quotation-based.
If your project needs a rolling-shutter system, send the opening schedule and drawings to our team. We will confirm whether we can quote that system, and on what specification, before any figure is discussed.

FAQ

Is there a standard price per square metre for roller shutters?

No single figure applies. The price depends on slat material, opening size, operation, rails and box, finish, certificate scope and quantity. We quote after receiving your specification, so the price is “on request”.

Why do two quotations for the same size differ so much?

Usually the scope differs: motor included or not, different slat profile, a different price basis (components, kit or installed), or certificate coverage. Compare line by line before comparing totals.

Does a motorized shutter always cost more than a manual one?

A motor adds the motor, a control unit and a power connection, so the quotation carries extra lines. How large the difference is depends on the model and requires a quotation.

Are plantation shutters priced like roller shutters?

The logic is the same (a quotation built from size, material, color and quantity), but they are a different product. A louvred interior shutter and a coiling curtain in a box cannot be compared on price.

How do I check a supplier’s certificate claim?

Ask for the document title, number, issuing or testing organization, tested product and model, standard version, issue and expiry dates, and the markets covered. A company-level system certificate does not prove that a specific shutter model was tested.

Can Smartex Screen quote a rolling-shutter system?

A: Send drawings and the opening schedule. We will confirm whether and how we can quote it before discussing price.
